Dental Sealants

At Macadam Dental, we can protect your back teeth from decay, back teeth need that extra protection. We use a product called dental sealants, with this product the incidence of cavities will drop considerably. We have found that this will significantly help the health of your teeth, and it have been noted as one of the most pro-active preventative treatments in dental care.

Dental sealants are a plastic material that our dentists, Dr. Kevin Morich and Dr. Jodi Morich, literally paints onto your teeth as a liquid and then dries hard creating a protective shell on your teeth. The application of this is painless, it does not involve drilling and there is no discomfort in applying. Our dentists will apply this product to your back teeth because that is where food debris is known to settle in small spaces, making it the most vulnerable to decay and cavities.

At Macadam Dental, we recommend this product for all of our child patients, our adult patients with noted deep grooves in their teeth, and our adult patients who have experienced problems in the past with severe decay. Dental sealants work by being a barrier between your tooth and bacteria thereby shielding your teeth from decay.

•  We clean the tooth.
•  Ensuring the tooth stays dry, our dentist will place cotton around the tooth.
•  We then apply a solution onto the tooth, making the surface a little rough, helping the sealant to stick better.
•  The tooth is rinsed and dried with new cotton in place to keep it dry.
•  We then apply the sealant, which is painted on, initially a liquid, it will harden in seconds.
•  The sealant is now in place, it should last several years.

As the steps indicate above, applying sealants is a quick, inexpensive and painless process that will reduce the chance of cavities. The product is a strong and durable product they will last you several years. Dr. Kevin Morich and Dr. Jodi Morich will check the status of your sealants during your regular dental exams and touch up as needed. Sealants are part of your preventative care but they do not replace the need for regular brushing and flossing.

We are happy to answer any questions you have about dental sealants, and how they shield you from cavities. Contact our Portland, OR office at: 971-337-3111
